Announcing
the next Rybovich project (or two!)
Good
news!
I've just received the
first batch of “Pat Rybovich Classic” Boat Bags &
Duffels. I've been
busy designing the bags & having them crafted in coated marine
canvas and
navy blue leather with a 1940s Rybovich vibe. I'll send an
announcement
as soon as they're up on the Rybo book website—they'll be ready in
plenty of
time for the Holidays!
In
case you're curious why the lack of Rybo-chatter lately, I've
also been knee-deep in an entirely different
Rybo-project: since the book has gone to press every free
moment has been
wholeheartedly devoted to writing my first screenplay.
Actually, I began
the work several years ago but set it aside for the four years it took
to
research and write the Rybovich book. Once the book was
launched I saw
that it sparked (an astonishing!) passion for vintage Rybo &
the yard so
I've decided to do whatever it takes to complete the screenplay by this
Spring.
“Sea
of Dreams”
(the working title) will be
a feature-length film that shares the hard work, struggle and triumph
of the
three Rybovich brothers (along with Pop) and the boatyard's almost
century-long
heritage. The years of work on the book and interviews with folks who
were
there “back in the day” have given new insight into my father's
approach to
boat design and boat-building along with the old salt's great stories
of the
three Rybo guys in action. The soul-stirring stories shared
in the book
helped to bring the colorful Rybovich legacy to life and it's a thrill
to be
now bring the story of Rybovich & Sons Boat Works to the big
screen!
Thanks
again for all of your love and support of my
Rybovich projects. I'll keep you posted with thrilling
details as “Sea of
Dreams” becomes a reality!
All
the best,

PS
In order to complete the screenplay I will be
dedicating every TUESDAY to responding to your emails & also to
making a
weekly run to the post-office to ship out Rybo books (and soon,
Rybovich Boat
Bags!)
PPS
It looks like the next vintage RyboRendezvous could
coincide with the grand opening of my cousin Michael's new boatyard
(and with
any luck to also celebrate the completion of the Rybovich screenplay)!
Michael
Rybovich & Sons is scheduled to officially
open in Palm Beach
Gardens in late March and it would be wonderful to celebrate this
momentous
occasion with a vintage RyboRendezvous. Since my focus is now
on
completing the script, this time party-planning will be a group effort
so your
participation will help make the weekend a reality. Please
let me know if
you (along with friends & family) can join us—with or without a
vintage
Rybo—and we'll work to get the plates spinning. Also, any
ideas regarding
party ideas & sponsors would be a plus—together we'll create an
extraordinary RyboRendezvous to remember!
