Since the 1947 splash of Hull #1 Rybovich has been celebrated as one of the oldest and most respected boatbuilders in the country. With simple hand-tools and a dream, the classic American company tells a story steeped in history: the creation of the modern sportfishing yacht. With sportfishing pioneer Ernest Hemingway leading the way, since the 1940s Rybovich & Sons Boat Works has attracted a strong and passionate following where money was no object and anything was possible.  Their requirements were simple: Only the best.

After the dust settled from the launch of the Rybovich book, I began to envision a collection of Rybovich gifts.  As my dad was famously impossible to please(!) I asked myself “What might deserve his quiet nod of approval?” With that question in mind, (and a passion to get it “Rybovich-right”) the Holiday Collection, below, is launched—my tribute to my dad and the boatyard’s 93-year reputation of innovation, craftsmanship and integrity.

The inspiration for the Holiday collection is the iconic angelfish cabinet door vents from the 1947 Hull #1—the boat that started it all! Rooted in the tradition of excellence, the limited-edition bags reflect Rybovich values and are anchored in the timeless style of sportfishing pioneers of the 1940s “Golden Age of Sportfishing”

Crafted in coated marine canvas and navy blue all-weather leather, the shape of the Boat Tote suggests my dad’s sweeping hull design. The leather is custom-dyed in his favorite color of deep marine blue—the identical deep blue he painted our living room walls, if you can imagine!   And a careful eye will find that the shape of the leather handle-ends is inspired by vintage blueprints of my dad’s legendary hulls.

The Boat Tote is created with function in mind—the oversized bag is created to carry your Rybovich book or to haul beach essentials and yachting gear in Rybovich style!  The classic carry-on Duffel is inspired by my dad’s weekender bag from the 1940s.  These substantial bags are as sophisticated as they are functional—easily traveling from seaplane to the dock at Bimini.
