"Four years of research into the family boatyard has brought me closer to my dad than I could have hoped for," Pat explains. "He passed away when I was a teen so creating the book was a perfect chance to reconnect with my dad.  I got a chance to interview Ol' Salts and folks who worked alongside him in the 50s and 60s, plus Rybo captains and people who have owned Rybovich boats over the years. Writing the book not only gave me a new-found appreciation of the boats he spent a lifetime designing & building, but it also gave me a new understanding of my dad as a person. He was a fascinating character: he didn’t like boating or the water (in fact he never once went out in one of his mahogany creations!) but with only a high school diploma he worked each night until midnight in his passionate pursuit of perfection. It’s a thrill to share the story about my dad and this exciting era, my greatest joy is hearing how the book reconnects people to the happiest times of their lives!”
